Ellen Anne Eddy

Ellen Anne Eddy is a fiber artist whose embroidered wall tapestries defy the concept of quilting tradition, Using exquisite hand-dyed colors and intricate patterns of machine stitchery, her work elevates reconstructed fiber into a  fine art medium. Her designs are drawn from a mingling of the natural world with her dreams and personal visions.  Using hand-dyed fabrics, lames, machine embroidery, appliqué and layered sheers, she creates the illusion of ice, running water, mist and flame.  She peoples her worlds with both real and imaginary life. The most outstanding feature of Ellen’s work is the embroidery.   Intricate stitching describes life in micro-and macrocosm. Fish and bugs, lizards and birds weave in and out of the patterns.  Frogs and cats sing to the night. A cat-fish swims in silent splendor. Salamanders bask in the heat. Her works are vibrant and full of energy.

Education

  • B. A., Knox College
  • Fine Arts at Boston State

Skills/Services

  • Fiber Artist
For 30 years I’ve explored, explained, and produced heavily embroidered tapestry quilts featuring nature and nature fantasy images. My work helped include free motion embroidery, and machine quilting as applique into the quilt art community. My work is available for sale as existent art and as commissions.
  • Portfolio Production
Studied WordPress portfolio development at Lynda.com
Can either design your portfolio, serve as a mentor,  or guide you through the process.
  • Educator/Mentor
I’m always delighted to teach and have developed numerous classes for quilters on free motion embroidery, applique, dyeing, and  fiber art,. I welcome inquires from guilds, groups, and individuals and will go anywhere as long as my travel and teaching fees  are paid.

Goals:

I am always interested in opportunities to show and  sell my work in gallery settings.

I love to pass on my skills as a teacher and accept teaching venues from guilds, groups, conferences and individuals.

As much as I love working my own art, I also take great pleasure in setting other beginning artists on a firm foundation so that they can create, promote and sell their works in ways that make sense for them. Mentoring is a process that never stops. I am always learning from someone, and someone is always learning from me. I am looking for a number of mentoring/teaching situations where I can share what I know about the business of art and art education.
